This book presents a collection, especially contemporary art, that may seem audacious or, perhaps, a postponed project, since it is the representation of a vision; however, an art collection is, at the same time, a hypothesis and many stories. 12 years after the last revision of the collection of this museum, Cien del MUAC explores its artistic and documentary heritage to share with the public works that are already referents of the collective imagination and thought. With the participation of 96 artists and collectives, we selected key works in the history of contemporary Mexican art, with a variety of genres and formats in a period of a little more than half a century. This catalog also includes recently acquired pieces that strengthen the artistic and cultural heritage of UNAM.

Con Cien del MUAC, el museo presenta su colección con un discurso múltipli guiado no por una única línea temática, sino por la relevancia que han adquirido ciertas piezas y creadores en nuestro entendimiento del arte contemporáneo en México. Por esta razón, hemos decidido presentar al espectador (lector, en este caso) con una selección de piezas que consideramos ser parte esencial de la historia de arte reciente. Este archivo incluye piezas realizadas a partir de 1952, un año umbral marcado por el gesto modernizante que fue la construcción de Ciudad Universitaria, pero especialmente del período que le sigue al terremoto político, social y cultural de 1968.
